Canine Sportzclub: Building Better Bonds Through Positive Training

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN -

BASIC OBEDIENCE

We believe all dogs can be trained regardless of their background. That is why we created the CGC course - a course designed to help you and your dog be the best you can be together. All first time joiners have to sign up for CGC course before moving forward to other courses. All of our trained and experienced instructors use the Positive Training Method of training. No harnesses, prong or shock collars are allowed. Classes are fun for students and their companions too .

Advances Obedience Program

Once the CGC - Basic Obedience foundation is laid, owners can progress through five increasing levels of difficulty to sharpen their dog’s focus and reliability:

Level of Obedience Programs offered:
Pre-Novice: Transitioning from basic manners to structured commands.
Novice: Developing off-leash reliability and precision.
Intermediate:Mastering complex commands and longer durations of focus.
Open: High-level training, including jumping and retrieving for national competitions.

Note: CSC must be completed before pursuing the advance programs

Rally Obedience (Rally O)

Unlike standard obedience where the handler waits for the judge's orders, Rally O involves a course where the handler and dog move through a series of numbered stations. Each station has a sign instructing the team to perform a specific skill (e.g., 360° turn, sit-down-sit, or weave through cones).

Key Features of the Program:
The club offers three distinct stages:

Rally O Novice: The foundational level where teams learn basic maneuvers.
Rally O Intermediate: Introduces more complex signs and transitions.
Rally O Advanced: The highest level of precision and skill refinement.

Communication Focused:

In Rally O, handlers are encouraged to talk to, praise, and encourage their dogs throughout the course, making it a great way to build a positive working relationship.

Inclusive Environment:

It is designed to be fun and less formal than traditional competitive obedience, though it still requires accuracy and teamwork.

Note: CSC must be completed before pursuing the programs

Agility Programs

The Agility Training Program is an energetic, high-speed dog sport designed to build confidence, fitness, and an unbreakable bond between the handler and the dog.

The program is structured as a progressive journey, moving from basic equipment introduction to advanced course navigation.

Level Of Agility Programs offered:
Basic Agility Introduction to Obstacles: Focuses on time and accuracy. Dogs learn to maneuver through non-contact obstacles like bar jumps, tunnels, and tires.

Intermediate Agility (2A) Handling Skills: Focuses on the handler’s ability to direct the dog through more complex sequences using body language and voice cues.

Intermediate Agility (2B) Contact Obstacles: Introduces specialized equipment that requires the dog to touch specific "contact zones," including the see-saw, dog walk, and A-frame.

Advance Agility Refinement & Strategy: For seasoned teams. Focuses on fine-tuning accuracy and developing the best "run strategies" for maximum efficiency on challenging courses.

Note : Note: CSC must be completed before pursuing the Agility programs

Tricks 4 Kicks !

Is a high-engagement program designed to increase a dog’s mental flexibility and physical coordination. It is perfect for owners looking for a creative way to bond with their pets beyond traditional obedience.

The Tricks Starter Course
This program focuses on "trick training," which serves as excellent mental stimulation and helps dogs become more aware of their body movements.

Course Objective: To teach dogs a variety of fun and impressive behaviors that build focus and confidence.

Key Skills Taught: While specific tricks vary by intake, they typically include movements like spinning, bowing, leg weaves, and "paw" actions.

Performance Aspect: Many graduates of this program go on to participate in public demonstrations or even movie and drama series, as seen with several of the club’s trainers (e.g., Ms Audrey Cheong’s dogs).

ITEMS REQUIRED FOR THE TRAINING

You will need to bring along these items for each training lesson.

1. Training Collar

  • Measure your dog’s neck to ensure the right size.
  • Consider the material (stainless steel).
  • Ensure a snug fit that’s not too tight.
  • Correct use of the training collar will be taught in the first class.
  • Only use it for training or walks, not for prolonged wear.
  • Harnesses, prong collars and shock collars are not encouraged and WILL NOT be allowed in the classes.

2. Training Leash

  • Leash Length - standard (5-6 ft) for basic training.
  • Material – Nylon: Lightweight and durable.
  • Width/Thickness:
    • Thin for small dogs, thick for larger dogs or strong pullers.
    • Padded handles for comfort during long sessions.
  • Clip Quality - durable, secure clips (snap hooks or carabiner style).
  • Avoid Retractable Leashes - not ideal for training due to lack of control.

3. Bring a muzzle along

  • Safety for Other Dogs and People: Muzzles prevent aggressive behaviour towards other dogs or park-goers, reducing the risk of bites or fights.
  • Prevention of Unwanted Biting: Some dogs may not be comfortable with strangers or other animals and could bite when stressed or threatened.
  • Socialization or Stress Management: Some dogs may feel overwhelmed in busy, noisy environments, and a muzzle can help prevent overreacting in these situations.

4. Proper Footwear

  • A pair of good shoes is essential for training to prevent slipping.
  • For safety reasons, sandals and slippers are NOT allowed.

5. Plastic Bag

Training grounds are hard to come by. Please help keep our grounds clean. Pick up your dog's poop/waste and dispose it at the designated bins to ensure we keep our park and training spaces clean.

6. CANINE SPORTZCLUB T-shirt

Please be attired in the provided official CANINE SPORTZCLUB T-shirt to be recognized as a student during our training programme.

Ground rules for training
